In the final analysis, DRP/BCP aims to develop a disaster recovery capability that can be tested and maintained in congruence with critical business processes. But don't be deceived: the DR capability is more than a paper plan. In all likelihood, the only part of the huge procedural document that results from plan development that will actually be used in an emergency is a decision-making flow diagram. This diagram shows the relationships and dependencies between tasks that must be completed to bring the company back to life.

A sample Emergency Decision-Making Diagram was promised to readers of Disaster Recovery Planning, both second and third editions. Here it is, in the form of a downloadable PDF file. You will need Adobe Acrobat to read this document (and a big printer or a lot of patience and transparent tape to print out a copy for yourself).
