Welcome to the home page of DR Planning.org, a Signature Site of Toigo Partners International and the Data Management Institute. clock.gif

This page is designed to serve as a vendor-agnostic information clearinghouse for all things pertaining to disaster recovery and business continuity planning. It is hoped that the information provided here will prove useful both to first time planners and experienced hands.

It is the contention of this page that there are no experts, properly so-called, in this field. The nature of disaster recovery planning itself, the uniqueness of individual business organizations, and the rapid pace of technological change all conspire to render each and every plan an original work of its designer. Having said this, it must also be said that commonalities exist between most plans and that these commonalities comprise the threads of a generic methodology.

In short, there is no wrong way to develop a disaster recovery capability for a company. One does NOT need a "professional certification" to do the work, but can be reasonably certain of developing a testable plan through the application of readily-accessible project management skills, a bit of industry knowledge, business and technical savvy, and a healthy dose of commonsense.

Along the way, it helps to share information with others who may have confronted similar challenges and may have developed solid working strategies. It is our hope that this page will help to facilitate such sharing.

Disaster Recovery Planning 3rd EditionThis site also serves as a "living appendix" to Disaster Recovery Planning 3rd Edition (DRP 3/e) by Jon William Toigo. DRP 3/e was published by Prentice Hall PTR in 2002 and is being kept up to date with insights and reports posted to this page. Visitors are encouraged to pick up a copy of the book for the latest information on DR Planning methods and techniques.

Whether you are an accomplished planner or just starting your first planning project, welcome to our page. Please let us know how we can make it more useful to you.
